The topping out ceremony for the under-construction STEM classroom building at Texas State University scheduled for April 10 has been cancelled in anticipation of inclement weather.
A topping out ceremony is a construction tradition held when the final beam is placed at the top of a building during construction. Often a small tree will accompany the beam as it is set into place.
Construction on the 168,000-square-foot building began in August 2024. The building is expected to be operational by fall 2026.
The eight-story, $137 million facility is designed to foster innovation and collaboration in STEM disciplines. The state-of-the-art facility will house the Departments of Mathematics and Computer Science and will provide teaching space, class labs, departmental offices and research labs for other academic disciplines.
