TXST to host 3-day LEADING agricultural science conference

The annual agricultural conference will explore student research from Texas, New Mexico and Puerto Rico.

Melanie Rae, vice president for people development for McCoy’s Building Supply, will deliver the keynote address during the 4th annual LEADING conference, Nov. 10-12, at Texas State University.

TXST will host more than 100 agricultural science graduate and undergraduate students from four universities during the LEADING conference, which will highlight student research related to agriculture and natural resources from the participating institutions.

LEADING is an initiative encompassing four universities—TXST, Texas A&M University-Kingsville, New Mexico State University and the University of Puerto Rico Mayaguez. The initiative is supported by a $20 million grant from the United States Department of Agriculture’s From Learning to Leading: NextGen Program. The USDA support is intended to develop and sustain the next generation of the food, agriculture, natural resources and human sciences workforce.

The conference will begin Nov. 10 with attendee tours of federal and private-sector partners, including the San Marcos Aquatic Resource Center and Swift River Pecans. Nov. 11 will highlight TXST facilities, including the Freeman Center and The Meadows Center.

The conference will conclude Nov. 12 with the LEADING Symposium and Career Fair in in the LBJ Student Center Grand Ballroom.
