Texas State University continues to expand access to quality higher education, welcoming a record-setting enrollment of more than 47,000 students for the Fall 2026 semester, which resulted from a record 83,479 applications.
TXST’s preliminary census day count of 47,513 students is an impressive 7% increase over the previous record established just last year. Overall, the university set 11 enrollment records for Fall 2026.
“Behind this record-breaking enrollment is something that matters even more: more students than ever now have access to a high-quality TXST education and a straighter path to the future they envision for themselves and their families,” said TXST President Kelly Damphousse.
“We have been intentional on our journey to becoming the fastest-growing university in Texas. We are expanding graduate programs, strengthening community college partnerships, growing opportunities at our Round Rock Campus, and reaching more students through online degrees. Together, these efforts reduce barriers of cost, time, and geography while allowing us to manage growth thoughtfully on our San Marcos Campus.
“And we aren’t done yet. While we haven’t raised tuition since 2021 (and have committed to keeping tuition flat through 2027), we continue to seek ways to reduce the cost of a TXST degree, including our expanded Bobcat Promise program and the creation of future three-year degrees,” he said. “TXST is proving what public higher education can achieve when access, academic excellence, research, workforce development, and student success are not competing priorities, but shared commitments.”
TXST is already among the top 25 universities in the country in attracting transfer students, and that strong growth in transfers continued this fall. The university is welcoming 3,571 new transfer students in Fall 2026, a 3% increase from the previous year. The robust inflow of transfer students is a direct result of TXST’s innovative co-enrollment partnerships with community colleges throughout the state. This is integral to TXST’s mission to meet students where they are and to increase access to a TXST degree.
In total, TXST welcomed 14,267 new students, including a record high 12,715 new undergraduates, 9,145 of whom are freshmen.
TXST’s Round Rock Campus also set a new record with more than 4,000 students served through a mix of in-person and online programs, a 37% increase from the previous record set in 2025.
TXST’s Graduate College saw a record number of 270 new students pursuing research doctoral degrees, up 67% from 2025, contributing to a total graduate enrollment of more than 6,228, a 20% increase over the previous year and shattering the previous record of 5,214.
Fully online enrollment climbed 54% from the previous year, exceeding 6,100 students for the first time.
International enrollment increased 9% to 2,222 students, also breaking the record set in 2025.
The College of Science and Engineering continues to attract the most majors at TXST, with 10,105 students enrolled for Fall 2026, setting a new record prior to the college’s division into two new colleges in Fall 2027. The College of Health Professions saw the largest enrollment increase of any TXST college, adding 1,079 new students to set a new record with 6,949 students to become the second largest college. The McCoy College of Business’ enrollment of 6,764 students—a 547 student increase—also set a new record.
