Texas State University students can explore opportunities to study abroad and participate in off-campus programs at the Education Abroad and Study in America Fair from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. on Oct. 15 in the LBJ Student Center Grand Ballroom.
Hosted by TXST Education Abroad and Study in America offices, the fair will bring together Education Abroad and Study in America staff, faculty leading programs, and other representatives to help students learn about available programs, ask questions, and explore off-campus experiences.
The fair will feature representatives from 32 out of 39 faculty-led programs offered in Summer 2027, five Summer Hub programs, and 9 out of 18 Study in America programs.
“The Education Abroad and Study in America Fair is an opportunity for students to learn more about the different ways they can incorporate an off-campus experience into their Texas State education,” said Manon Bowen, director of Education Mobility for the Division of TXST Global.
Students do not need to have a specific program or destination in mind before attending but are encouraged to come prepared with questions and speak with program coordinators and other representatives at the fair.
“They do not have to have everything figured out before they attend,” Bowen said. “The fair is a great starting point for students who are simply curious about what opportunities are available and want to learn more about how an experience away from campus could fit into their degree.”
Funding is another resource students can learn more about at the fair. Scholarships and other funding opportunities are available for eligible programs, and students may be able to use financial aid toward their experience. Representatives from the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships will also be available to answer questions about financial aid and funding options.
Education abroad programs can provide students with opportunities to experience different cultures, develop new perspectives, and gain confidence while living and studying in an environment different from their own.
“Students participating in a study abroad experience learn about different cultures firsthand,” said Mark Evans, assistant professor of instruction in the McCoy College of Business. “I think the experience also helps students open their minds to new experiences and new perspectives. They also gain a greater sense of confidence in themselves and in their abilities because they have been able to live and study in a culture different from their own.”
The Education Abroad Office offers programs that vary in length and format, including semester-long experiences, faculty-led programs, and shorter opportunities. Study in America programs also give students the opportunity to explore educational experiences closer to home.
“An education abroad experience has the ability to transform students academically, personally, and professionally,” said Harry Bowers, professor of instruction at the School of Journalism and Mass Communication.
Students interested in learning more about Education Abroad or Study in America opportunities can attend the fair to meet with program representatives, explore available options, and learn about resources to help them get started.
