Students across campus will be burning the midnight oil as finals approach, and the Texas State University Police Department is stepping up to support them during this time.
Beginning April 29, Bobcat Safe Rides will expand its hours to support late-night study sessions. The service, which typically picks passengers up until 3 a.m. depending on the day, will run through 7 a.m. during finals week, aligning with extended hours at Alkek Library.
To meet demand, the service will temporarily focus on campus-only transportation, providing rides to and from Alkek Library. Students can request a ride through the Safe Rides app, with each trip accommodating between two to 10 passengers, depending on the vehicle. Riders must present their Bobcat Card at pickup, and two escorts will be assigned per trip to ensure safety for both students and staff.
Launched in fall 2024, Bobcat Safe Rides restructured campus transportation with a student-led approach. The program operates seven days a week, offering reliable rides between on-campus locations and nearby destinations.
In its first semester alone, the service logged more than 15,000 rides, doubling usage from previous campus transportation options. By extending its hours during finals, Bobcat Safe Rides continues to provide a safe alternative for students traveling after the Bobcat Shuttle has ended service for the night.
