Texas State University celebrated the opening of the new Keysight Smart Lab Dec. 3 in Ingram Hall.

Keysight Technologies, a global leader in electronic design and test solutions, partnered with TXST in 2024 through in-kind equipment gifts. The donation includes advanced instrumentation and software used for circuit design, measurement and analysis. The equipment and software are foundational in the fields of semiconductors, wireless communications and embedded systems.

“Keysight Technologies' generous donation of equipment and software significantly benefits Texas State University and its students,” explained Semih Aslan, Ph.D., electrical engineering program coordinator and associate professor in the Ingram School of Engineering. “The creation of the Keysight Smart Lab and the ability to offer the Keysight IoT Design and Validation Industry-Ready Student Certification immediately boosts our program to the leading edge of workforce development."

Kelly Damphousse, Ph.D., president of TXST, and Doug Baney, Ph.D., corporate director of education for Keysight Technologies, were among those who spoke during the event.

The equipment was used to establish the Keysight Smart Lab inside Ingram Hall, home of the Ingram School of Engineering. This lab gives TXST students hands-on access to industry-standard technologies used by engineers worldwide, bridging the gap between classroom learning and real-world application.

“Most importantly, this partnership will open doors to future certifications in rapidly growing areas like IoT, semiconductor, high-speed digital, and RF and microwave technologies,” Aslan said.

“Our students are now leaving Texas State not just with a degree, but with proven, industry-ready skills and a professional certification recognized industry-wide, ensuring they are prepared to make an immediate impact after graduation.”
