Two undergraduate students from the Ingram School of Engineering have secured summer engineering internships with Cargill, a company dedicated to improving the sustainability and efficiency of food production worldwide.

Georgina Oluoch and Obinna Maduagwuna, both manufacturing engineering students, attended the Cargill Diversity Leadership Summit in Fall 2023. Held in Minneapolis, MN, the two-day workshop provided opportunities for networking and professional development for dozens of college students from across the country. Georgina, who aspires to one day be an executive of an engineering firm, says that the workshop left her inspired by the company culture of Cargill.

“My most significant takeaway from the conference was witnessing Cargill's genuine commitment to prioritizing the well-being of its employees,” says Oluoch.

“That experience instilled a profound sense of respect for the company's values and culture.”

Georgina will soon get first-hand experience of Cargill’s workplace culture, as she and Obinna have both secured summer internships in salt production with the company. Georgina looks forward to networking with engineering professionals and gaining in-depth knowledge about food production methods.

“I anticipate gaining invaluable hands-on engineering experience and a deeper understanding of the industry,” she says.

“By immersing myself in the company culture, I hope to develop effective leadership and decision-making skills to continue paving the way for my career advancement.”

The 12-week internships begin in May 2024. Georgina’s internship will take place at a Cargill salt production plant in Watkins Glen, NY while Obinna’s internship will be at a Cargill facility in St. Claire, MI.
