Texas State University student Yeremi Hykel is a featured contestant on the 35th season of CBS’ “The Amazing Race,” which premiered on September 27. A senior within Texas State’s McCoy College of Business, Yeremi is competing on the show alongside his younger brother, Liam, for a chance to win $1 million.
The Buda, Texas, native says his experience as a military veteran and nontraditional student helped him prepare for the challenges he faced while filming the competition.
“In order to transfer to Texas State, I had to attend night classes while working full-time in the Marine Corps, which showed me the importance of being adaptable to uncomfortable situations,” Yeremi said. “I learned that if I keep my eyes on the prize and take actionable steps towards a goal, I can be successful at anything.”
Childhood challenges left Yeremi and Liam with a strained relationship but competing on “The Amazing Race” has helped the Hykel brothers reconnect.
“I never thought we’d get this close again, but persevering through the screening process and the competition itself made us learn a lot about each other,” Yeremi said. “I’m eternally grateful for this opportunity to mold a new, everlasting relationship with my brother.”
“The Amazing Race” can be watched on CBS on Wednesdays at 8:30 p.m. CDT or streamed on Paramount+.
