10 Texas State students awarded TSUS Kuempel, Gomez scholarships

The Texas State University System Foundation Board of Directors has selected 10 Texas State University students as recipients of the Edmund P. Kuempel and Fernando Gomez scholarships.
Wendy Antuna Bayona, a marketing major from San Marcos; Emily Cavanee, a sophomore biology major from New Braunfels; Isabella Denovellis, a senior education major from Frisco; Cara Olvera, a junior health sciences major from Brownsville; Victoria Perez, a sophomore psychology major from San Antonio; Mateo Villafuerte Langford, a junior digital media innovation major from Austin; and Luis Villatoro, a junior accounting major from Cedar Park, were awarded the TSUS Edmund P. Kuempel Scholarship.
Yolanda Gay, a junior criminal justice major from Brownsville; Amber Ruiz, a senior criminal justice major from San Antonio; and Jennifer Torres, a senior philosophy major from Austin, were awarded the TSUS Fernando Gomez Scholarship.
The Edmund P. Kuempel Scholarship Program provides financial assistance to worthy and deserving students, encourages academic excellence, and recognizes student leadership and achievements. Through this program, students in any associate or baccalaureate degree program at any TSUS institution can apply to receive financial assistance. It provides a one-time, $5,000 grant to students to pay for tuition, required fees, living expenses and educational materials. The number of scholarships is determined annually by the TSUS Foundation Board of Directors.
The new TSUS Fernando Gomez Scholarship is targeted to provide financial assistance to Hispanic undergraduate students planning to attend law school. Through this program, students in any baccalaureate degree program at any TSUS component institution may receive financial assistance to help complete their undergraduate degrees. It provides a one-time, $2,500 grant to students.
