Texas State University will host the eighth annual Health Scholar Showcase on Friday, April 4 from 2-5 p.m., at the TXST Performing Arts Center. Organized by the Translational Health Research Center (THRC), the showcase is the largest university-wide faculty research event at TXST.
This year’s theme is “Bridging the Divide: Making Mental Healthcare More Accessible,” bringing together university and community members for an afternoon of networking, collaboration and discovery. The event will feature innovative health research, sponsored programs and community partnerships, highlighting efforts to improve mental healthcare access at TXST and beyond.

This year’s keynote speaker is Daniel Knoepflmacher, M.D., director of the general psychiatry residency program at New York-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medicine, vice chair for education in the department of psychiatry at Weill Cornell Medicine, and host of the popular mental health podcast, On the Mind. In his keynote speech, Knoepflmacher will discuss strategies for improving access to mental health-care through education and outreach.
“This year’s showcase will highlight our ‘better together’ approach, which supports researchers and community members working together on funded health research programs benefitting residents of Central Texas,” said Melinda Villagran, executive director of THRC.
Potential new THRC Faculty Fellows will be identified through research presented during the poster session on topics ranging from AI in healthcare to public and rural health innovation.
