Texas State to resume in-person instruction for fall 2021 semester

Texas State University will return to in-person instruction for the fall 2021 semester.

Texas State University President Denise Trauth announced April 7 via email to students, faculty and staff that the university's fall semester will look like the pre-pandemic fall 2019 semester, with a full slate of in-person classes and activities resuming on both Texas State's San Marcos and Round Rock Campuses. 

"This fall, in-person classes and activities will be back in full force on our Texas State University Campuses, giving our students the college life experience for which we are known," Trauth wrote. "This return to a more vibrant campus life is possible thanks to your dedication to keeping our university community healthy and safe, which will continue to be our priority moving forward."

Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs Gene Bourgeois said the university expects to be at 100% capacity in classrooms for the fall semester. COVID-19 mediation efforts had restricted occupancy levels in classrooms to 50% for the past spring and fall semesters.

"For faculty who’ve signed up to teach in-person and students who have signed up to take in-person classes, the expectation should be that everyone is going to be in attendance, in person," Bourgeois said. "We look forward to working with our faculty, staff and students in reengaging and building anew our Texas State communities in this context."

To date, more than 2,700 doses of Pfizer and Johnson & Johnson vaccines have been administered by the university. Texas State will continue to offer weekly COVID-19 vaccination clinics on the San Marcos Campus with the goal of administering 1,500 doses at each event through the spring and summer semesters. An additional vaccination event is being planned for the Round Rock Campus, as well as a joint vaccination effort with Hays County for late April. 

Texas State will hold a virtual town hall for students, faculty and staff on April 20 to share additional information regarding the fall 2021 semester.
