Texas State University’s McCoy College of Business and its Flex Master of Business Administration (MBA) program have been ranked among the nation’s best in numerous categories by U.S. News and World Report.
Among the publication’s 2025 Best Business Schools, which focuses on full-time MBA programs, McCoy College ranked #120 overall.
McCoy College’s Flex MBA program ranked #105 (tie) nationally in the part-time MBA category, up 10 spots from last year’s ranking. The program has risen 26 spots since 2023.
“U.S. News' Best Business Schools rankings compare full-time campus-based Master of Business Administration (MBA) programs on their career attainment success, student excellence and qualitative assessments by experts,” the publication wrote in its 2025 methodology report. “Half of the rankings formula evaluated institutions on the successful job attainment and earnings outcomes of their graduates. The other half is a combination of academic metrics about the achievements of entering students and opinions from business schools, corporate recruiters and company contacts on overall program quality.”
The part-time MBA rankings are based on six factors: peer assessment from surveys of business school deans and MBA program directors, part-time student ratio, part-time students total, GMAT / GRE scores, students' undergraduate grade-point average (GPA), and students’ work experience.
In addition to the overall national rankings, McCoy College’s standing among 2025 Best Business Schools also included these details:
- #6 among Texas public universities
- #10 among all Texas universities
Additionally, with Best Business Schools being ranked significantly on full-time MBA programs, the McCoy College full-time Cohort MBA program attracts some of the nation’s most qualified candidates: #1 in Texas and #22 in the U.S. for full-time MBA students’ undergraduate GPA (3.65).
McCoy College’s Flex MBA ranking includes these details:
- #8 among Texas public universities
- #11 among all Texas universities
In terms of attracting the most qualified candidates, McCoy College’s Flex MBA ranked as follows:
- #1 in Texas for part-time MBA students' undergraduate GPA (3.66) for the second consecutive year
- #4 in the U.S. for part-time MBA students' undergraduate GPA, up seven spots from last year

McCoy College offers several MBA program options. The Flex MBA is customizable, allowing students to attend either full-time or part-time, with the ability to change as needs evolve. The program also offers optional concentrations. The Cohort MBA is a full-time program in which students can complete their degree in just 16 months. The college launched a new online doctor of business administration (Online DBA) degree just last week.
