Texas State University will implement paid parking in lots surrounding Sewell Park and the University Events Center effective July 1.
Parking lots currently designated perimeter and restricted parking will open to the general public for paid parking on weekends and after 3 p.m. on weekdays. Paid parking will cost $5 and be good for all day. TXST parking permit holders may still park in lots matching their permit without paying additional fees.
The change in policy will allow the general public access to TXST parking as visitors seek to enjoy water recreation activities along the San Marcos River via the nearby City Park. Currently, parking is not allowed on the TXST campus without a permit.
Areas opening to paid parking include lot R13 in Sewell Park, P13 across Aquarena Springs Drive from the University Events Center, P9 bordered by Aquarena Springs Drive and Charles Austin Drive, R41 along Charles Austin Drive and P8 and R14 adjacent to the University Events Center and Jowers Center, respectively.
All lots available for public parking display signage and QR codes with instructions to facilitate payment.
San Marcos has also recently launched a pay-to-park initiative. Eligible San Marcos residents can register vehicles ahead of time to avoid fees for city parking. For more information about San Marcos parking, visit www.sanmarcostx.gov/paidparking.
