The agreement guarantees TXST admission to CTC students with a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.25 on a 4.0 scale and a minimum of 30 semester credit hours.

Texas State University and Central Texas College officials have announced a formal agreement to ease the transfer of students from CTC to TXST.

The new articulation agreement establishes an easily transferable core curriculum and serves to assure CTC students that identified courses will transfer to a degree program at Texas State with no loss of credit.

The agreement was signed by Texas State President Kelly Damphousse, Ph.D., and Central Texas College Chancellor Michele Carter, Ed.D.

“As a first-generation college student who began my higher education journey at a community college, I understand the life-changing impact that occurs when community colleges and universities work together to expand opportunity,” said TXST President Kelly Damphousse."

The agreement guarantees TXST admission to CTC students with a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.25 on a 4.0 scale and a minimum of 30 semester credit hours. Students from CTC who meet Texas State’s general admission requirements with a completed core curriculum, associate of arts, associate of science and associate of applied science will also receive guaranteed admission.

Admission to TXST does not automatically guarantee admission to all degree granting programs, majors, minors or fields of concentration offered by the university, but incoming CTC transfer students may compete for admission to specific programs on equal footing as students who began at TXST as freshmen.

"This partnership with Texas State University represents a significant milestone for our students. By creating clear, supportive transfer pathways and offering tailored advising and resources, we are helping CTC students achieve their bachelor’s degrees with greater ease and confidence,” Carter said. “We are grateful for the strong collaboration with Texas State and for all our partners who make opportunities like this possible, strengthening not only our students’ futures but our entire community."

More than 8,000 students enrolled at CTC during the fall 2024 semester, pursuing more than 40 associate degrees and certificate programs in academic, professional and technical fields. With nine CTC locations serving the Fort Hood-Killeen area for more than 50 years, the partnership benefits from both institutions being designated “Military-Friendly” by EducationConnection.com.

In the last five years, 242 students have transferred from CTC to TXST, with the most popular majors including computer science, business, psychology, education and criminal justice. TXST’s Round Rock Campus, offering 19 undergraduate degrees and located just 51 miles from Killeen, is expected to be an attractive destination for CTC transfers.

The transfer agreement ultimately supports TXST’s goal of expanding guaranteed transfer admission pathways and assured transfer scholarships. Transfer students who follow structured pathways tend to be more focused and successful, contributing to the overall health and vitality of the Texas workforce.
