Texas State University has partnered with Texas College Bridge to help ensure the success of first-time students entering college.

Texas College Bridge offers online college preparatory courses to strengthen students’ English and math skills prior to enrolling in college, setting them up for postsecondary success. The teacher-facilitated courses are personalized and self-paced, meeting students where they are and preparing them for what comes next.

“This new partnership with Texas College Bridge is a monumental opportunity to increase pathways for new students to begin their academic journey at Texas State,” said Nick Weimer, assistant vice provost of Experiential and Academic Initiatives at TXST. “Paired with our support programs such as peer mentoring, success coaching and tutoring in math and writing, students will be able to assess their own background in math, reading and writing to prepare for academic achievement using personalized approaches.

“They will not only enhance skills in problem-solving but will gain experience through cooperative learning opportunities in the classroom,” Weimer said. “As a result, this program will help students forge relationships with other incoming freshmen leading to greater academic and career success.”

With Texas College Bridge, students can focus on the skills they need and skip those they have already mastered. Plus, when they graduate high school, students can earn a Texas Success Initiative (TSI) waiver at TXST.

Texas College Bridge launched in 2020 to assist school districts with their students’ college preparedness needs during the COVID pandemic, when administration of SAT, ACT and TSIA were put on hold. Since its inception, more than 600 Texas school districts have utilized the program, facilitating more than 375,000 course completions and helping thousands of at-risk students get college ready—students who otherwise may not have felt capable of pursuing a college career.
