Texas State University has opened the doors to its new Passport Services Office after being officially designated as a U.S. Passport Acceptance Facility by the U.S. Department of State.
The office, which is located within the Thornton International House and open from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. (last appointment at 2:30 p.m.), will assist TXST students, staff, faculty, and the wider San Marcos community with passport applications and questions to ensure a smooth, stress-free process.
“As a global institution, Texas State University is committed to fostering opportunities for international engagement,” said Manon Bowen, director of Education Abroad and Passport Services. “Opening a Passport Services Office on campus demonstrates our dedication to removing barriers and simplifying the process to travel abroad, along with providing much-needed services in San Marcos and surrounding areas. This service is not only a convenience but also a step toward encouraging more members of our community to explore the world and engage in life-changing experiences.”
As a U.S. Passport Acceptance Facility, TXST’s acceptance agents are authorized to receive and execute applications for a U.S. passport book and/or passport card. The office is designated to help process new, lost or stolen, and minor U.S. passport applications using the DS-11 application only.
For those renewing their active U.S. passport, there is no need to make an appointment. For renewals, simply mail in the renewal application (DS-82) and the supporting materials via the U.S. Postal Service. To determine renewal status, answer the screening questions on the first page of the DS-82. Detailed instructions can be found online.
While TXST can receive and execute applications, it is important to understand that only the U.S. Department of State can determine eligibility for a U.S. passport.
