TXST expands Global Career Accelerator program across disciplines

The GCA offers students the opportunity to gain practical, career-aligned experience by collaborating on global teams with peers from over 50 countries.

Texas State University has announced the expansion of the Global Career Accelerator (GCA), a for-credit experiential learning initiative launched in summer 2024 that equips undergraduates with in-demand skills, real-world experience, and a path to a great career.

Following strong student participation and overwhelmingly positive feedback, the program will now be integrated into a broader range of academic disciplines.

The GCA offers students the opportunity to gain practical, career-aligned experience by collaborating on global teams with peers from over 50 countries. Students work on real-world projects guided by professionals from over 100 leading companies including OpenAI, L’Oréal, charity: water, and the Grammy Awards.

“The Global Career Accelerator gives students a real advantage in skill enhancement and professional development,” said Seth Frei, Ph.D., assistant dean and chief of staff of the McCoy College of Business. “It’s designed to help them build practical, hands-on skills that align with their goals—no matter their major.”

Students select from one of five career-focused tracks:

  • Digital Marketing
  • Data Analytics
  • Web Development for Everyone
  • Coding for Data
  • Career Rotation

Students gain experience using industry-standard tools and connect to a professional global network, and they earn certifications upon completion of the program.

“The Global Career Accelerator will open the door to digital technologies for psychology and related majors,” said Robert McKelvain, Ph.D., an associate professor of instruction in the Department of Psychology. “Skill with digital and analytical technology, such as data analytics, statistical analysis, and artificial intelligence, will be a core advantage for a psychology major in the future workplace."

Student response has been overwhelmingly positive. In a fall 2024 survey, 90% of participants said they would recommend the program to a friend. Students may enroll in one course that includes the GCA and are encouraged to consult with academic advisors regarding degree applicability.

The summer cohort begins May 19.  For more information about the Global Career Accelerator visit https://www.globaltech.txst.edu/.
