Chartwells at Texas State University has recently been honored with the National Retail Account of the Year Award from Chartwells Higher Education. The award was presented by Chartwells corporate leadership at the summer summit in North Carolina in early June.

More than 300 universities and colleges across the country were up for the award.

"We are excited that the hard work of our on-campus Chartwells team was recognized nationally,” said Bill Mattera, Ph.D., associate vice president for Student Success. “We know how hard our associates here in San Marcos work to ensure that our students receive the best dining experience possible, and this honor is no surprise to us."

Several key factors played a role in fiscal year 2024 that elevated Chartwells at TXST to receive the award, including:

  • Added rotating food trucks and partnered with local businesses to serve campus community starting Fall 2024.
  • Added Blimpie at Trauth-Huffman Hall in January.
  • Signed first Chartwells NIL deal with Maroon and Gold Collective, LLC to promote retail limited time offering with TXST athletes in the spring.
  • Piloted pop-up restaurant Bowl Life in Mondo Subs at the LBJ Student Center in March, which will be permanently installed in August. The success resulted in the opening of similar concepts under the name Blends and Bowls for Chartwells around the country.
  • Successfully hosted more than 3,000 students for Late Night Breakfast in Jones Dining Center in May.

Chartwells is the recognized leader in contract food service management, hospitality, and guest service at over 300 colleges and universities in the United States. The organization reinvents the on-campus dining experience by investing in high-tech, food-infused social spaces.
