Acclaimed author ire’ne lara silva to hold reading, signing in Kyle

Silva, the 2023 Texas State Poet Laureate, is the author of five poetry collections and multiple literary awards.

Acclaimed author ire’ne lara silva will hold a reading and book signing Wednesday, Sept.17, at Texas State University’s Katherine Anne Porter Literary Center in Kyle.

The 7 p.m. event is free and open to the public. The KAP Literary Center is located at 508 W. Center St. in Kyle.

Silva, the 2023 Texas State Poet Laureate, is the author of five poetry collections, furia, Blood Sugar Canto, CUICACALLI/House of Song, FirstPoems and the eaters of flowers, two chapbooks, Enduring Azucares and Hibiscus Tacos, a comic book, VENDAVAL, and a short story collection, flesh to bone, which won the Premio Aztlán.

Silva is the recipient of a 2025 Storyknife Writers Residency, the 2021 Texas Institute of Letters Shrake Award for Best Short Nonfiction, a 2021 Tasajillo Writers Grant, a 2017 NALAC Fund for the Arts Grant, the final Alfredo Cisneros del Moral Award and was the fiction finalist for the A Room of Her Own Foundation’s 2013 Gift of Freedom Award. Her second short story collection, the light of your body, will be published by Arte Publico Press in spring 2026.
