As Texas State University commemorates its 125th anniversary university leaders hosted former President George W. Bush for a special edition of the LBJ Distinguished Lecture Series.
President Bush joined Texas State University System Chancellor Brian McCall for a panel discussion on December 16 in Austin. Their robust discussion covered topics including leadership, world affairs and President Bush’s recent passion for painting.
Since its founding in 1899, TXST has been committed to building a better tomorrow, which is encapsulated in the TXST 125 theme—The Legacy of Tomorrow. The Bush discussion proved a fitting tribute to the university’s legacy and its most famous alum, President Lyndon B. Johnson.
Initiated in 1982, the LBJ Distinguished Lecture Series advances Johnson’s passion for inviting influential leaders to share their philosophies and experiences with his alma mater and its community.
TXST President Kelly Damphousse said it was an honor for Bush to participate in the series.
“This event was a great opportunity to gather in the spirit of President Johnson’s contributions to his alma mater,” Damphousse said. “Back in 1973, he expressed his desire to invite influential leaders to share their philosophies and experiences with the university community. Thank you to Texas State, our Board of Regents, TSUS and to our student groups attending. I want to extend a special thanks to our 43rd President and Chancellor McCall for their fascinating and insightful discussion.”
