The inaugural Huddle Against Hunger challenge raised funds to support TXST's Bobcat Bounty food pantry.

Texas State University notched a victory in the fight against food insecurity over the weekend with a big win in the inaugural Huddle Against Hunger challenge against I-35 rival University of Texas-San Antonio.

A total of 1,115 donors helped TXST raise $33,467 for Bobcat Bounty, a student-led food pantry that allows students to access free groceries in a stigma-free environment. In comparison, 942 donors contributed $22,798 to UTSA’s Roadrunner Pantry. By virtue of TXST’s greater number of individual donors participating in the week-long challenge, TXST received an additional $18,000, for a total of amount of $51,000 going to support Bobcat Bounty. As runner-up, Roadrunner Pantry received an additional $12,000.

Nearly half of TXST’s donors were alumni and current donors.

The challenge spanned the week leading up to the annual TXST-UTSA football game, played this year at UFCU Stadium in San Marcos. Both universities actively encouraged their communities to step up and donate to aid their on-campus food pantries.

The challenge was so successful that both schools have agreed to participate in the Huddle Against Hunger challenge again next year, when the game will be played in San Antonio’s Alamodome.
