Fall 2024 Enrollment Fact Sheet

Overall Highlights

  • TXST sets a new enrollment record of 40,678 students, an increase of 1,805, or 4.6%, over fall 2023. This is the first time in the university’s 125-year history that enrollment has exceeded 40,000 students.
  • TXST Round Rock Campus set an enrollment record, up 24% over fall 2023. This was driven, in part, by the addition of 10 new academic programs allowing students to complete a bachelor’s degree in Round Rock without having to take courses in San Marcos. 
  • TXST set a record for new doctoral students by admitting 136, a 22.5% increase over fall 2023. 
  • New master's student admissions increased 12.5%, or 133, over fall 2023. 
  • TXST set a new international enrollment record with 1,525, an increase of 581 students—a 61% jump—over fall 2023. 
  • Fall semester credit hours exceeded 500,000 for the first time, setting a new record.
  • The total number of new TXST students—which includes first-time, transfers, master’s and doctoral students—set a new record with 12,328 students, up 4.6% or 546 more than fall 2023. 

First-year Class

  • 8,165 students (fourth consecutive year TXST has set first-year record), a 3.5% increase
  • 42.6% (3,480) of incoming first-year students ranked in the top 25% of their high school class
  • 94% of incoming first-year students are from Texas (7,709)
  • Incoming first-year students represent 41 states, 23 countries and 193 Texas counties
  • 3,750 enrolled first-year students qualified for merit aid, an increase of 653 from 2023 
  • 46.6% - 3,817 Pell eligible first-time-in-college (FTIC) enrolled up by 217 
  • The 45,157 first-year applications TXST received for fall 2024 is a new record. It is a 6% increase from 2023 and a 42% increase since 2019. 

The number of FTIC students at TXST is larger than the total enrollment of 10 other public universities in Texas and almost as large as two others.

Transfer Highlights 

  • 2,829 students transferred to TXST for fall 2024 semester, a 5.4% increase over 2023
  • 916 transfer students qualified for merit scholarships – an increase of 139 from 2023
  • The average GPA of incoming transfers is 3.12 
  • Transfers represent 36 different community colleges 
  • Austin Community College provided the largest number of transfers, 708, an increase of 127 from 2023
