As a rapidly expanding office, Education Abroad offers many types of programs throughout the year with a range of costs and scholarship opportunities.
Faculty-led Programs
One of the most popular options, the faculty-led programs include a cohort of students traveling with a TXST faculty member to various locations. This summer, more than 600 students went abroad with trips ranging from one to four weeks. The office projects around 35 different faculty-led options in summer 2025 and three in the spring and winter break. Program fees for this opportunity vary from $1,703-$5,675.
Bilateral Exchange
Students can spend one semester to one year abroad at a TXST institution partner through bilateral exchange programs (often just called exchange). During the time abroad, tuition and fees are paid to TXST. This means if a student has a scholarship at TXST, it applies to tuition as normal, making this study abroad opportunity one of the most affordable options even with the added costs of accommodations, food, and other items.
Affiliate Programs
Students can also remain enrolled as TXST students while spending a few weeks to one year through an affiliated program. Everything other than the application fee is paid to the provider. Students are eligible to use their TXST financial aid if they meet all eligibility requirements. Other costs, such as housing, service support, and program fees, can make this option more expensive than the bilateral exchange programs.
Scholarships
The International Education Fee Scholarship (IEFS) is open to all undergraduate and graduate students who will be studying abroad. Students must meet the established requirements, including TXST GPA, financial needs (determined by the Financial Aid and Scholarships office), length of the program, and IEFS alumni status.
The U.S. Department of State’s Gilman International Scholarship is open to undergraduate students of limited financial means to study or intern abroad. Students must be U.S. citizens, federal Pell Grant recipients or candidates, and studying at a two- or four-year institution.
The Office of Education Abroad also supports other opportunities, including service-learning, virtual programs, internship-based programs, search programs, and semesters at sea. The office will also offer several presentation sessions across campus throughout the fall.
