Evacuation of Ukrainian academics from war zone topic of Polish guest lecture

As part of Sociology Week at Texas State University, Krzysztof Konecki, Ph.D., chair of Sociology at the University of Lodz in Poland, will discuss the efforts to evacuate Ukrainian scholars from the war zone. 

The event will be held Oct. 12, 3:30-5 p.m. in Flowers Hall Room 230 on the San Marcos Campus. The event is free and open to the public but RSVPs to jk54@txstate.edu are required.

During the presentation, Konecki will offer sociological views on the war in Ukraine. He will also describe successful efforts to assist Ukrainian scholars and their families in escaping from the war and to relocate in Poland, Germany and Canada.

Konecki will be joined by his wife, Anna Kacperczyk, Ph.D. Both Konecki and Kacperczyk participated in the “The Reverberations of War: Ukrainian and Polish Academics Write a Collective Autoethnography of Experiencing War in Ukraine” project, published in Culture Studies and Critical Methodologies (Sage, June 2023).

Konecki’s scholarly interests include qualitative sociology, sociology of interaction, methodology of social sciences, communication and intercultural management, organizational culture and management and contemplative sociology. He is the editor-in-chief of Qualitative Sociology Review and is president of the Polish Sociological Association. He is also a member of the Committee of Sociology of the 

Polish Academy of Science and was a member of the executive committee of European Sociological Association. 

Kacperczyk is professor of sociology at the University of Lodz in Poland. Her research and writing interests include the environment/sustainability, photographic methodologies and amateur rock climbers. She is associate editor of Qualitative Sociology Review
