Bestselling author, mathematician Cathy O’Neil to deliver Common Experience lecture

Cathy O’Neil, author of the 2022-2023 Common Experience reading selection Weapons of Math Destruction: How Big Data Increases Inequality and Threatens Democracy, will deliver a virtual lecture 6:30-7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 18 at Texas State University.

O’Neil’s lecture, which is free and open to the public, may be viewed at https://commonexperience.txst.edu/events/insight-series/watch-live-.html. The event is part of the Common Experience Insight Series.

Following the presentation, student moderators will conduct a question and answer session with questions curated from University Seminar courses, Common Experience social media channels, and the online event question form.

O’Neil is an American mathematician, data scientist and author. She is the founder of the blog mathbabe.org and her opinion columns are published in Bloomberg View. She is a former director of the Lede Program in Data Practices at Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism's Tow Center. O’Neil lives in New York City.
