The Texas State University System (TSUS) Foundation has named five members of the Texas State University community recipients of the 2022 Regents’ Awards.

The Regents’ Award recognizes outstanding faculty, staff and students from the seven TSUS member institutions.

From Texas State:

  • Jason Kwak, Music, and Jon Lasser, School Psychology, received the Regents’ Professor Award.
  • Michael Devlin, Journalism and Mass Communication, and David Lemke, Biology, received the Regents’ Teacher Award.
  • Precious Orusa, a nursing major, received the Regents’ Student Scholars Award.

The winners were announced Aug. 12 at the TSUS Board of Regents meeting in Austin.

The Regents’ Professor designation honors outstanding members of the system’s professoriate who have achieved excellence in teaching, research, publication and community service, while demonstrating an unwavering dedication to their students and university. Kwak and Lasser are the 19th and 20th TSUS Regents’ Professors to be honored at Texas State.

The Board of Regents annually recognizes exceptional teachers from TSUS member institutions with the Regents' Teacher Award. Regents' Teachers are selected based on their outstanding performance as educators, contributions to the development of courses and the use of innovative teaching methods, among other criteria. Winners maintain the title of "Regents' Teacher" for the duration of their service within TSUS. Devlin and Lemke are the eighth and ninth recipients from Texas State.

The Regents’ Student Scholar Award recognizes students for outstanding academic achievement and scholarship, leadership abilities, and contributions to the institution and their community.

Regents’ Professor and Student Scholar winners will be formally recognized at the November Board of Regents meeting in San Marcos. Regents’ Teacher Award winners will receive formal recognition at the February 2023 Board of Regents meeting in Austin.
