Rodney E. Rohde, Ph.D., regents' and university distinguished professor and chair of the Medical Laboratory Science Program at Texas State University, has been selected as an American Society for Microbiology Distinguished Lecturer (ASMDL) for the 2025-2027 Program.

Rohde is also a longtime associate adjunct professor of Biology at Austin Community College (ACC) and ACC Global Fellow where he teaches microbiology for the health sciences and fundamental biology courses.

In the ASMDL Program, Rohde will deliver lectures at ASM Branch meetings throughout the country and interact with students, postdocs, and early career scientists to provide career guidance and research advice.

"This is a tremendous honor to be selected as an ASM Distinguished Lecturer, recognizing my contributions to the field and providing an opportunity to share my work with microbiology professionals around the country and world,” Rohde said. “To be selected by expert peers in the world of microbiology, and from one of the top microbiology organizations in the world, is surreal and humbling."

Established in 1899, ASM is the home for microbial scientists from around the globe to connect, learn, discover and prepare for the future. More than 37,000 members partner with global organizations to solve the world’s most pressing challenges.

Only the most distinguished lecturers and researchers are selected to participate in the Program after being screened through a competitive nomination process.
