Ionut Popescu, Ph.D., an associate professor in the Department of Political Science at Texas State University, delivered a presentation on his new book, No Peer Rivals: American Grand Strategy in the Era of Great Power Competition, at the Heritage Foundation in Washington, D.C. on May 14.

During his trip, Popescu also recorded an episode of the “Heritage Explains” podcast with Victoria Coates.

In the book, Popescu contends that the United States needs to adopt a new realist grand strategy in order to contain China’s ambitions and thus maintain Washington’s position as the world’s only superpower. He argues that a realistic approach to industrial policy, international trade, energy production and technological superiority offers the best chance for developing the sinews of power needed to outcompete China in the long run.

Popescu’s book tour included recent presentations at the University of Notre Dame, University of West Florida, the Kissing Tree community in San Marcos and the New York-based Council on Foreign Relations, with further visits planned for the fall to the University of Texas and Texas A&M University.
