Martinez was presented the award at the conference’s annual meeting in late March at Southern Methodist University in Dallas.
“I was completely overwhelmed and humbled by this award,” Martinez said. “Amidst challenging times for higher education and many across the country, this award brings a ray of hope for the commitment that we all have to foster the success of our graduate students. We continue to do the work that matters, and for me, mentoring is a pivotal part of this work.”
The award acknowledges and honors a faculty member from one of the more than 100 graduate colleges in the Southern Region who has enjoyed outstanding success in mentoring graduate students.
“We nominated Dr. Martinez not only for the sheer number of students she has successfully mentored, but also for having provided mentoring resources for students and colleagues in her program, college, and across campus,” said Andrea Golato, Ph.D., dean of The Graduate College at TXST.
Michael O’Malley, Ph.D., dean of the College of Education, Dionne Davis, Ph.D., assistant professor in the Educational and Community Leadership Program, and three former students of hers, Michael Ota, Ph.D., Kelley Glover, Ph.D., and Katherine Lewis, Ph.D., provided letters of support for the nomination that highlighted the mentorship Martinez is providing to her students.
