Krishna Kisi, assistant professor in the Department of Engineering Technology at Texas State University, has been awarded a grant by the U.S. Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) to provide infectious diseases training to 700 workers and employers.

The project, funded by the $200,000 grant, will provide three hours of free workplace safety training on infectious diseases, including COVID-19, to hospitality, general and construction industries.

The training will also include a brief overview of whistleblower laws and OSHA’s complaint policies and procedures. The targeted audience includes youth, hard-to-reach populations, limited English proficiency workers, small businesses and temporary workers. Training will be provided in English and Spanish and will be delivered face-to-face and online. Individuals completing the training will receive all the training supplies and will also receive a training completion certificate.

Training will be organized at Texas State Campuses in San Marcos and Round Rock, at work sites and at requested locations.

Texas State has also been authorized by OSHA to provide 2.5 hours of free fall prevention/protection training to 700 workers and employers in general and construction industries. Training includes a brief overview of whistleblower laws and OSHA’s complaint policies and procedures. Like the infectious disease training, the fall prevention/protection course will be available in English and Spanish, face-to-face and online. The targeted audience includes youth, hard-to-reach populations, limited English proficiency workers, small businesses and temporary workers.
