When Texas State University student Camren Hinton stepped onto the court at the National Intramural-Recreational Sports Association (NIRSA) Region IV Regional Basketball Tournament, he made history as the youngest official selected for this year’s competition.

At just 18, Hinton officiated both a men’s quarterfinal and a women’s semifinal matchup, gaining firsthand experience at one of the region’s most competitive collegiate recreation events.

NIRSA Region IV brings together professional and student members from across the south-central United States, uniting large public institutions and smaller schools in a network dedicated to advancing campus recreation through collaboration, innovation and shared best practices. The regional tournament is part of the NIRSA Championship Series, a platform that allows students to grow their skills as athletes, officials and leaders.

For Hinton, participating as an official was both rewarding and humbling.
