Texas State spring 2026 enrollment exceeds 41,000, setting new record

The spring semester enrollment surpassed the 40,000 mark for the first time, setting several additional enrollment records in the process.

Texas State University enrolled a record 41,734 students for the spring 2026 semester, maintaining its position as one of the most popular destinations for students in Texas.

The spring semester enrollment surpassed the 40,000 mark for the first time, setting several additional enrollment records in the process. This represents a sizeable 11% increase, or 4,135 students, over spring 2025. The previous spring semester enrollment record was set in 2025 with 37,599 students.

“This record-setting spring enrollment reflects the growing demand for a TXST education and our commitment to expanding opportunity for students,” said TXST President Kelly Damphousse.

“Through innovative partnerships, online degree programs and the continued growth of our Round Rock Campus, TXST is meeting students where they are while growing at a thoughtful, deliberate pace on our San Marcos Campus.”

TXST’s innovative outreach and partnerships with community colleges across the state contributed significantly to the healthy undergraduate growth. TXST welcomed 1,098 new undergraduate transfer students this semester, a 10% increase compared to 992 last year. In its first academic year, the Bats to Cats guaranteed transfer partnership with Austin Community College is showing promising early outcomes and is on pace to reach 2,000 participants by summer 2026. TXST continues to strengthen its presence statewide by expanding co-enrollment programs with Collin College, Dallas College and Lamar State College Orange.

Graduate enrollment continued its upward trajectory, surging 31% to 5,431 students, an increase of 1,297 over the previous spring. This growth is a direct reflection of the university’s expansion of new master’s and doctoral programs as part of TXST’s transition toward R1 Carnegie classification by 2027. The university launched a total of five new doctoral programs, three master’s program and five concentrations in existing programs for the fall 2025 and spring 2026 semesters. A significant amount of enrollment growth at the graduate level stems from the increased popularity of TXST’s 20 accelerated online programs.

Other spring enrollment highlights include:

  • The total number of new students, including First-Time in College (FTIC), transfers, master’s and doctoral students, reached 2,126, a 20% increase (366 more students) compared to spring 2025.
  • New master’s students surged by 41%, with 713 enrollments, an increase of 210 students. These new students push total master’s enrollment to 4,343, a 33% jump exceeding the previous enrollment record of 3,526 set in 2017.
  • New doctoral students surged 744% with 76 enrollments. The new cohort increases the doctoral enrollment at TXST to a record 822 students, a 17% increase from the previous record set in spring 2025.
  • The Texas State Round Rock Campus continued to grow and now services 3,497 students—including nearly 900 who are taking accelerated online program offerings. That is a 1,304 student increase, or 59%, over spring 2025.
  • Total international student enrollment increased to a record 2,027 students, a 30% increase over the previous record set in spring 2025.

Other areas with significant enrollment jumps included the College of Science and Engineering, which increased 10%, or 845 students, and is the largest college at TXST with a total enrollment of 8,989. The McCoy College of Business saw a 20% increase, or 1,034 students, for a total enrollment of 6,105.
