Ryan Penlerick, Ph.D., a faculty member in the Department of Engineering Technology at Texas State University, has been elected to the board of directors of the Associated Schools of Construction (ASC) as Director of Region 5.

Founded in 1965, ASC is a nonprofit professional association dedicated to the advancement of construction education, bringing together educators and industry practitioners to promote collaboration, research and teaching excellence. The organization supports more than 140 colleges and universities through conferences, publications and student competitions, serving as a leading forum for innovation in construction curricula and pedagogy.

ASC’s mission is to advance construction education by supporting members in delivering best practices in teaching, fostering research innovation and serving their institutions, communities and the construction industry. Through its regional structure, the organization connects faculty and students while strengthening ties between academia and industry.

Penlerick’s election to the ASC Board of Directors reflects his growing leadership and national engagement in construction education. In his role as Director of Region 5, he will help guide regional initiatives, support member institutions and contribute to the strategic direction of ASC at the national level.

Penlerick brings more than 26 years of experience in the construction and concrete industries as a professional, educator and veteran. He began his career in northern Colorado in project management and estimating while also serving as an Air Force Civil Engineer with the Wyoming and Texas Air National Guard.  He later advanced to senior leadership roles, including vice president, with a San Antonio-based general contractor before founding his own commercial construction company in New Braunfels, leading nearly $2 billion in projects across 10 states.

He now serves as professor of practice and program director of the Concrete Industry Management program at TXST, one of the nation’s leading programs of its kind, where he leads program growth and teaches construction coursework.

His appointment to the ASC Board further strengthens TXST’s presence in national construction education leadership and reinforces the university’s commitment to advancing the future of the built environment through education, research and industry collaboration.
