Administered by Austin Arts, Culture, Music and Entertainment, the Elevate program supports arts initiatives that expand cultural access and community engagement across the city.

Hehmsoth’s funded project, Double Vision: Contemporary Jazz in Performance, presents a series of original jazz performances co-led with saxophonist and former TXST faculty member John Mills, DMA. The ensemble also features TXST School of Music Jazz Director Utah Hamrick, DMA, along with guest artists from Austin’s vibrant music community.

“The goal of this project is to create a space where original music, collaboration and mentorship all intersect,” said Hehmsoth. “It’s about connecting generations of musicians and audiences through creative work that reflects both the history and the evolving future of jazz in Austin.”

The project highlights newly composed works, collaborative improvisation and interdisciplinary elements, with performances scheduled across multiple Austin venues. Programming will include opportunities for student participation, mentorship, and audience engagement.

Double Vision was also featured as the headline ensemble for the 2025 TXST Supple Music Series, further reflecting the group’s connection to the university and the regional jazz community.

Hehmsoth’s recent work with HPPAA has also been recognized nationally through a 2025 award from the Aaron Copland Fund for Music, further underscoring the organization’s growing impact in contemporary jazz performance and programming.

Through HPPAA, Hehmsoth continues to develop innovative programming that bridges performance, education, and community outreach. The Elevate award supports this ongoing work, strengthening access to contemporary jazz while supporting local artists and fostering cultural vitality in Austin.
