Fischer Marlow, a freshman outdoor recreation major and Eagle Scout at Texas State University, was recently awarded the 2025 Jensie Madden Conservation Award from Comal Conservation.
The award, which recognizes outstanding commitment to preserving the land, water, and wildlife of Comal County, was presented to Marlow at the Keep It Country Music Jam on Oct. 25. He is the youngest person to ever receive it.
“Being the youngest person is a huge honor for me because getting young people involved in the community, land conservation, and environmental stewardship is something we need more of."
Fischer Marlow
Outdoor Recreation Major
Marlow’s family instilled in him a passion for the outdoors at a young age. He grew up on a ranch in New Braunfels, and the Hill Country and Comal County are important places to him.
“Protecting the land is something I think about quite often,” he said. “The work I did in New Mexico with restoring forests and building artificial beaver dams is something that really stands out to me. The work I do with the Comal County Trails Alliance with building natural surface trails is something I will continue to be involved with and advocate for.”
Fischer Marlow is introduced at the Keep It Country Music Jam to accept the conservation award.
The New Braunfels native has led trail construction in Panther Canyon, completed restoration work at Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico, volunteers weekly with the Comal County Trail Alliance, serves as a counselor and organizer of environmental programs at Slumber Falls Camp in New Braunfels, participates in trash cleanups, and more.
“Fischer Marlow represents the next generation of conservation leadership,” said Roxanna Deane, president of Comal Conservation. “His enthusiasm for protecting our natural heritage, combined with his ability to inspire others to join him, makes him a most fitting recipient of the Jensie Madden Award.”
Other honors Marlow has received during his lifelong commitment to the outdoors and time as a scout include a World Conservation Award, a National Outdoor Award in Conversation, and the National Medal of Outdoor Achievement, which is one of the rarest awarded in scouting.
Once he graduates, he hopes to become a national park ranger at Big Bend National Park.
