Texas State University has been named a 2026 Tree Campus USA, an Arbor Day Foundation program designation which honors colleges and universities for promoting healthy trees and engaging students and staff in the spirit of conservation.
This marks the 15th consecutive year that TXST has been so honored by the Arbor Day Foundation.
TXST will hold an Arbor Day event at 10 a.m. on Nov. 19 to celebrate the recognition. Approximately 50 new trees, featuring a mixed selection of native, drought-tolerant shade trees and perennial understory plants appropriate for the local ecosystem will be planted along Bobcat Trail between the Roy F. Mitte Building and Academy Street. This initiative is a vital step in maintaining TXST’s designation as a Tree Campus USA.
To obtain the Tree Campus USA distinction, Texas State met five standards for effective campus forest management: a tree advisory committee, a campus tree-care plan, dedicated annual expenditures for its campus tree program, an Arbor Day observance and student service-learning project.
Currently, 412 institutes of higher education across the country hold the Tree Campus USA distinction. For more information, visit arborday.org/our-work/tree-campus-higher-education.
