Ten Texas State University undergraduate students across various majors received the Quanta Services Scholarship, awarded by TXST Career Services and EXC2EL, for securing and completing summer internships.
The $1,500 scholarship, made possible by a generous donation by Quanta Services, was established to support enrolled students’ career readiness by decreasing the financial burden that work-based learning opportunities can impose.
The 10 TXST students include:
- Zoe Johnson, International Business, French Concentration
- Jennifer Rodriguez, Construction Science and Management
- Kimberly Sanchez, Computer Information Systems
- Waseem Shakir, Criminal Justice
- Jose Rios, International Studies
- Ezra Watson, Sociology
- Evelyne Rees-Eissler, Urban Geography and Regional Planning
- Clarissa Rivera, Management
- Kenna Stafford, Geography Natural Resources and Environmental Studies
- Kylie Jo Yarbrough, Integrated Studies
Johnson secured her summer internship with Alliance Francaise de Dallas. She joined their Marketing and Cultural Programmatic Team, contributing to the promotion of French culture and language in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex.
“I did not want to be worried about paying my rent while I do my internship,” Johnson said. “My internship is unpaid and not in San Marcos. This resulted in me having to leave my current job, but bills do not stop for that. Without the extra financial pressure, I'm able to commit my attention and drive toward my internship.”
To qualify for the Quanta Services Scholarship, students must secure a summer internship, be in good academic and financial standing, and be enrolled in summer and fall ’24 academic semesters.
