Texas State University students attending the first virtual sales competition of the 21st annual National Collegiate Sales Competition (NCSC) came in eighth place during the March 27 -30 competition. Some 140 college students from 70 universities competed for honors.
The world’s largest collegiate sales competition combines top sales students in a test of live role-play and one-on-one sales call challenges. Each sales call was broadcast live with faculty and recruiters from sponsoring companies serving as judges and evaluating each student’s performance.
Each undergraduate team has two members whose cumulative scores are tallied through each of four consecutive rounds of role-play selling over a three-day period. The combined scores of team members Corbin Douds, who placed first in the opening round and advanced, and Chelsea Fuchs, who won the wild card round, allowed the Texas State team from the McCoy College of Business to place eighth. Other members of the team included: Speed Sellers, Zachary Turove, Sierra Farmer, Kendall Stovall, Alexandria McWilliams, McKenzie Horton, Kristen Brom, Taylor Howard, Dawson Trudell, and Corey Rinkeyick. Wayne Noll and Nicole Palm served as coaches with Mickey Schneider and Sarah Grizzle as undergraduate role play coaches. Vicki West, marketing lecturer and director of the Center for Professional Sales, is faculty coach.
“This year's virtual competition truly highlighted the flexibility and adaptability that is needed within the sales field, and for this I am beyond grateful,” said Fuchs.
Douds praised the support and mentorship of the faculty within the Sales Center. “Through training for this prestigious event, we developed lifelong skills that have set the foundation for our careers in sales moving forward, while also setting us apart from other students entering the workforce,” he said.
