Eleven Texas State University students were commissioned as second lieutenants in the United States Army during a virtual ceremony May 21.
Guest speaker Colonel Chris Alfeiri, commander, 5th Brigade, United States Army Cadet Command, participated remotely from Joint Base San Antonio.
The live stream of the commissioning was viewed nationwide by family and friends, from Texas to Washington State to Massachusetts. Each cadet selected a friend, family or faculty member to participate in their part of the ceremony.
Commissioning ceremonies are traditionally conducted in person, but Texas State hosted a virtual commissioning due to health concerns related to the COVID-19 pandemic.
