Texas State Scholar Josephine Reynes Receives AAUW Award

Josephine Reynes, a graduate teaching assistant in the Department of Mathematics, is a recipient of a Selected Professions Fellowship awarded by The American Association of University Women (AAUW).

AAUW’s awards aim to relieve the burden of student debt and provide the support needed for women pursuing academic work. AAUW has provided more than $115 million in fellowships, grants, and awards since its start in 1888.

As an undergraduate at Texas State, Reynes researched Oriented Hypergraphs and wrote a thesis titled “Total Minor Polynomials of Oriented Hypergraphs.” As she pursues her M.S. in Pure Mathematics, she will continue research into hypergraph theory using linear algebra, combinatorics, and matroid theory. Reynes feels honored to have been selected to receive the Selected Professions Fellowship.

“Receiving this fellowship has helped me feel more secure in my future plans of being a research professor,” Reynes said.
