James “Jake” Negvesky named LBJ Outstanding Senior Student at Texas State

James “Jake” Negvesky has been named the recipient of the 2019 LBJ Outstanding Senior Student Award at Texas State University.

The LBJ Outstanding Senior Student Award is named in honor of Lyndon B. Johnson, 36th president of the United States and a Texas State Class of ’30 alumnus. It is awarded annually by the Texas State Alumni Association to a graduating senior as recognition for outstanding leadership, character, campus and community involvement and academic success.

Before beginning his undergraduate program at Texas State University, Negvesky founded the nonprofit organization Play Your Hand, in 2013. The organization raises money for the benefit of children enduring prolonged hospital stays by providing items that bring the common comforts of home.

Serving the Texas State community, Negvesky was a member of the Honors College; a McCoy College of Business Administration ambassador from 2016-17; treasurer of his fraternity, Sigma Alpha Epsilon, from 2016-17; president of the Texas State University Interfraternity Council from 2017-18; and a Student Government senator at-large from 2017-18.

He has been awarded the President’s Honor Scholarship, 2018 Living Fraternal Values Award, a scholarship from the Jack Martin Endowment in Political Communication, Joseph Mancini Leadership Award, and the Honors College Scholarship. He also studied abroad in Barcelona, Spain with coursework in computer information systems and international marketing.

Negvesky will graduate with a GPA of 4.00 and will receive his bachelor of business administration in economics, with a minor in political communication at the McCoy College of Business Administration commencement ceremony on May 18.
