Texas State launches Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship

Texas State University has established the Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship (CIE) to foster cross-disciplinary collaboration in the pursuit and development of new ideas.

Shannon Weigum, an associate professor in the Department of Biology, and Daniel Roy, Entrepreneur in Residence in the McCoy College of Business, will serve as co-directors of the CIE, which replaces and builds on the prior work of the Center for Entrepreneurial Action by expanding the reach of innovation and entrepreneurship across the university.

The goals of the CIE are to support a growing ecosystem of innovation and entrepreneurship across the university and assist the launch of new ventures, which brings those new ideas to life. The CIE will also serve as a catalyst by engaging, equipping and empowering Texas State students, faculty, alumni and communities to achieve greater levels of entrepreneurial success.

The CIE emerged from the “Big Ideas” announced in 2019 by the university, which will direct how Texas State focuses investment in cutting-edge research and support for the best and brightest minds at the university. 

Texas State's strategic goals are advanced by the CIE by enhancing the university as a leader in innovation and entrepreneurship, focusing investments in ground-breaking research in these areas and anchoring Texas State's position in the Texas Innovation Corridor to empower the next generation of innovators and entrepreneurs.
