University News Service | August 25, 2020

Texas State University will host approximately 50 to 60 students and staff from Lamar University who are under a mandatory evacuation from their campus in Beaumont, Texas due to Hurricane Laura.

The Lamar students and staff are scheduled to arrive on the San Marcos Campus the afternoon of August 25. Texas State is committed to helping these Lamar students and staff during this difficult time, and will take precautions to mitigate the spread of COVID-19. This includes educating the evacuees regarding on-campus guidelines and enforcing the same health precautions as Texas State students follow.

Lamar students will be assigned temporarily to available rooms in separate areas of San Gabriel and Gaillardia residence halls, and will use Harris Dining Hall. Lamar staff will be assigned to Bobcat Village, and may also use space in Falls/Sayers and Blanco residence halls.

Through their Lamar student/employee IDs, they will have access to the same on-campus services provided to Texas State students, including the Student Health Center and telemental health counseling.

The Bobcat community welcomes the Lamar students and staff from one of our sister universities and looks forward to making them feel at home.
