Statement on rescinding July 6 SEVP guidelines impacting international students
Texas State University | July 14, 2020
On Tuesday, July 14, 2020, federal officials from the Department of Homeland Security’s Student and Exchange Visitor System rescinded new guidelines implemented on July 6 regarding temporary exemptions to the Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP). The guidelines had the potential to negatively affect international students in the U.S. on F-1 and other visas if face-to-face courses were temporarily moved online out of safety concerns related to COVID-19.
Texas State University supports this action by federal officials, which will allow international students to continue their studies as they had originally intended.
Texas State international students should proceed with fall 2020 enrollment plans in expectation of the conditions outlined in the Roadmap to Return. Texas State remains fully committed to supporting its international students. The university's International Student and Scholar Services, Graduate College, graduate advisors and undergraduate advising centers will continue working with international students to answer any questions they may have as the fall semester approaches.
