SAN MARCOS – The Common Experience at Texas State University will present The Legend of Big Bend, a film screening and live-score performance featuring Austin chamber music group Montopolis, joined by Texas State student musicians, on Monday, April 8.

The event, which is free and open to the public, will be held at 6 p.m. in Evans Auditorium. Seating is on a first-come, first-served basis.

In The Legend of Big Bend, Montopolis turns West Texas tales into song in a live-score performance and film inspired by Big Bend National Park. The performance weaves science, history, poetry and personal stories into music inspired by the land and the people who have walked upon it. Music and stories are accompanied by video capturing the epic grandeur of the vast high desert wilderness. in 2015, Montopolis composer Justin Sherburn screened Yakona, a film chronicling the San Marcos River, with student musicians performing the score live at Texas State.
