Innovation Lab showcases student-led research, innovation during SXSW

SAN MARCOS – Texas State University will host the 2019 Innovation Lab, an interactive event showcasing student-run technology projects, during the SXSW Interactive Festival in Austin on Sunday, March 10.

The Texas State Innovation Lab will be held in the Great Room of the W Austin, 200 Lavaca Street. Media coverage is invited. The Innovation Lab and reception will run 6:30-8:30 p.m., with Josh Daspit, assistant professor in the Department of Management, hosting a team pitch session 7:15-7:30 p.m.

The event will feature students using and creating new technology to solve real-world issues. Students will present ideas and innovative technologies such as applying augmented reality in the medical field, and utilizing leftover grain to produce bread for local food banks. During the program, corporate partners will also demonstrate their role in mentoring and helping students bring their research to the marketplace. 

Groups presenting pitches include the Bobcat Clean Air Project, NASA Drifter 3.1, Resurrection Bread and Smart City Concept Garage. The Virtual Reality Training for Emergency Medical Services of Austin will also pitch its research.

The Texas State Innovation Lab is open to all SXSW Interactive badge holders or special guests of Texas State.
