Texas State University and Tarrant County College (TCC) have partnered on a new assured transfer program to provide a clear path to both an associate and bachelor’s degree for students beginning at Tarrant County College and completing their degree with TXST.

TCC transfer-intending students will benefit from personalized support and early efforts to support belonging across institutions, which will help them save money and complete their bachelor’s degrees in a timely manner. TCC students who have completed at least 30 transfer hours and have a 2.25 or higher GPA will be guaranteed admission to TXST.

Eligible students may begin transferring to TXST’s San Marcos or Round Rock campuses this summer. TCC students in certain majors will also have the option of completing their final two years at TXST Local at Collin College’s Technical Campus in nearby Allen as part of the innovative Collin College Academic Alliance initiative announced by TXST in Aug. 2024.

“As a proud graduate of a community college myself, I believe that student success is a collective responsibility of all areas of higher education. That’s why TXST is honored to partner with Tarrant County College to create clear, guaranteed pathways for Texas students to achieve their academic goals close to home,” said TXST President Kelly Damphousse. “This marks our fourth community college articulation agreement in the past year, with at least four more yet to come. Our goal is to build bridges for students, to remove barriers, and to ensure no credits are left behind as they earn their four-year degree close to home. These partnerships go beyond signatures on a piece of paper. They are a testament to our shared mission to help our state build a Talent Strong Texas.”

TCC was established in Fort Worth in 1965 and has grown to encompass six campuses in the Metroplex serving more than 43,000 students. For the 2023-24 academic year, nearly 500 former TCC students were enrolled at TXST.

“We know many Texans face an affordability crisis, and we’re proud to provide them access to earn an affordable first-class higher education,” TCC Chancellor Elva LeBlanc said. “We’re strengthening workforce development and uplifting our region and state by equipping students with the education to transfer to four-year institutions or immediately begin high-demand, high-wage careers.

“Our collaboration with Texas State reflects a determination that our transfer students have a solid bridge to another post-secondary institution where they can continue their education and earn a bachelor’s degree,” she said.

Community colleges typically have lower tuition rates compared to four-year universities. By spending the first two years at a community college, students can significantly reduce the overall cost of their bachelor's degree. Students who first earn an associate degree at TCC will save an average of $10,000 each year before moving on to TXST. Additionally, TCC students who transfer to on-campus programs at TXST’s San Marcos or Round Rock locations can qualify for an assured transfer scholarship.

Assured transfer agreements such as this are an essential strategy to support student success, ultimately saving them time and money. TXST has transfer planning guides that provide TCC students with clear, guaranteed transfer coursework guidance to achieve their academic goals without unnecessary barriers.
