Today is National First Responders Day, when we shine special attention on the heroes who are the first to run to a crisis, often putting their own lives on the line. Our Texas State University community is grateful to be served by so many excellent first responders in both San Marcos and Round Rock.

For example, our university police officers model the selfless service and unwavering commitment to protecting our communities that distinguishes so many first responders.  Our Student Health Center is working on the front lines to keep our campuses healthy and slow the spread of COVID-19. And, we are grateful for those who teach and train current first responders and those of the future, such as the Advanced Law Enforcement Rapid Response Training (ALERRT) Center and our College of Health Professions.

To all of the 4.6 million firefighters, police, emergency medical technicians (EMT), and paramedics in the United States and to the countless others who serve as first responders, we say thank you. We are all better off for your service, your readiness, your expertise, and your compassion for our community.

If you see one of these dedicated professionals today, please take a moment to thank them for their service.
