Texas State University Associate Professor Dr. Cheryl Fulton has been named president-elect of Chi Sigma Iota (CSI), Counseling Academic & Professional Honor Society International. She will begin her term on May 1, eventually moving into the president’s chair in 2021.
Fulton serves as the admissions coordinator in the Department of Counseling, Leadership, Adult Education and School Psychology. She is serving her third term with CSI as the chair of the leadership and advocacy committee.
CSI is an international honor society that promotes strong professional identity through its members — professional counselors, counselor educators, and students — who contribute to the realization of a healthy society by fostering wellness and human dignity. The organization has 130,000 members and 400 chapters.
“I’m honored to serve as president-elect of CSI, an organization that has afforded me many professional leadership growth opportunities. The establishment of CSI was critical to creating and sustaining the health and longevity of the counseling profession. I hope seeing their professor contribute to the profession in this way will inspire my students to also seek ways to advocate for both clients and the profession,” Fulton said.
Fulton is a licensed professional counselor in Texas with more than a decade of experience counseling individuals, families, and groups. Her research interests include mindfulness, women’s and gender issues, counselor community engagement, spirituality and religion in counseling, and counselor entrepreneurship.
She earned the 2018 Biggs-Pine ASERVIC Journal Award and the 2015 Association of Counselor Educators and Supervisors Outstanding Counselor Educator Article of the Year. Fulton also received the 2018 College Achievement and 2017 College Distinction Awards for Scholarly/Creative Activities at Texas State.
