College of Education's Assaf awarded Fulbright Scholar appointment to Indonesia

Lori Assaf, a professor of Curriculum and Instruction in the College of Education at Texas State University has received a Fulbright U.S. Scholar Program grant to work with Faculty of Education at Universitas Tanjungpura in Pontianak, Indonesia.

 Assaf will work at Universitas Tanjungpura for two weeks, where she will give several lectures on language learning, using technology to support language learners and how to integrate language and literacy strategies. She will facilitate a writing workshop for faculty and graduate students on academic writing for publication and will be the plenary speaker for a national conference on Trends in English Language Teaching Methodologies.

“I'm looking forward to learning with my international colleagues and am so pleased to be chosen to conduct this important work,” Assaf said. “One of our goals is to explore ways Texas State University and Universitas Tanjungpura can develop a formal relationship for our teacher candidates and doctoral level students. I am excited about the many opportunities this project will provide.”

The Fulbright Specialist Program is facilitated by the Council for International Exchange of Scholars and is sponsored by the United States Department of State Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs. It is designed to increase mutual understanding between the people of the U.S. and other countries. The Fulbright Specialist Program sends U.S. faculty and professionals to serve as expert consultants on curriculum, faculty development, institutional planning and related subjects at academic institutions abroad for a period of two to six weeks.
